Movie Review: Elf

Elf movie poster

Alright so I recently watched the 2003 movie Elf, because tis the season for Christmas movies. Let me tell you I’m not the kind of person who waits for certain times of year to watch quote unquote seasonal movies, but, because I basically live on the internet, I had been seeing Elf memes and references and wanted to see what all the fuss was about this film.

As you can probably tell I, once again, have not seen this classic (or perhaps I have when I was a child, but I don’t think I have, so I’m just going to assume I haven’t). Alright quick short synopsis or whatever with a lack of spoilers (obviously). A guy named Buddy works in the North Pole in Santa’s workshop, finds out he isn’t actually an elf (shock and horror, he is like 2 times an elf’s size) and decides to go to New York to find his human family.

Literally, that is it. A fake elf looks for his human family. There were a few laughs here and there, but I mean it’s not really aimed at adults, so I guess it would be funnier for children. Will Ferrell in the titular role, not too bad. Perhaps this is just not my “scene”, movie wise. It does have memorable moments, like his love of Maple Syrup on everything and all the Christmas décor (not that I really care for Christmas décor, especially in this fantastic hot climate that I live in), but I sent think I would watch it again by myself, probably if the majority of people wanted to I wouldn’t be opposed to watching it.

6/10, because A it is a children’s movie, and B it was kinda cringy (but then again isn’t everything?)

All in all, I recommend if you’re a child under 10 years old or if you’re wanting to watch a cringy Christmas movie. For me if it came to a battle between Elf and How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Jim Carey live action) then the Grinch wins hands down.

And that’s all folks.
